Reading Rangers
Grades 2-3 Session 1
Reading intervention; literacy and skill building to improve grade level reading using strategies, such as lessons on individual tablets, reading curriculum, parent and family engagement activities, and more.
Held: Tu, Th 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Healthy Hawks
Grades 2-5 Session 1 & 2
Transition time from the school day to afterschool, students will wash their hands, complete their daily affirmations, and have dinner.
Held: M, Tu, W, Th 3:45-4:15 p.m.
Let’s Get Moving (at home)
Grades 2-5 Session 1 & 2
Students will be given a variety of athletic equipment for personal use at home in order to gain healthy habits in their own personal space.
Held: Daily
Violin
Grades 3-5 Session 1 & 2
Introduces students to the violin, teaching them basic techniques, music reading, and performance skills.
Held: Tu, Th 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Science/Game Hawks
Grades 2-5 Session 1 & 2
Students will learn science concepts through hands-on experiments and games.
Held: Tu, Th 4:15-6:00 p.m.
We Love Chili on Valentine’s Day
Grades 2-5 Feb. 12
Students will participate in a discussion about ingredients and cooking chili after which they will judge and enjoy separate chili recipes before jumping into fun Valentine’s games and activities.

FIELD TRIPS
Hawks Fly at Fun City
Mar. 27 12:30-4:30 p.m.
Students will head to Fun City where they will get to enjoy trampolines, wall climbing, basketball and volleyball, ninja course, foam pit, arcade, and more.
Aloha to Summer
May 21 3:45-6:00 p.m.
Students will celebrate with an end-of-year Luau featuring music, bounce house, photo booth, food, and more.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Success Mentoring
During lunch periods M/W & Tu/Th
One-on-one mentoring for selected students twice per week, designed to improve attendance and academic performance.
Youth Advisory Council/Student Council
M, Tu, W, Th during lunch period
Students will learn about the roles for class representatives, run campaigns, hold elections, learn about self-governance, while helping to make decisions about programming and activities at their school.
Parent Advisory Council/Parent Meetings
Feb. 10, Mar. 10, Apr. 14, May 19
Parents and other community members collaborate with school staff and administrators to provide input on educational policies, programs, and decisions to improve student success. This group serves as a bridge between the home and the school.
6th Grade Transition Trip to Middle School

6th Grade Students will be given a special t-shirt and travel to the middle school where they will be introduced to school administrators and have lunch with 7th and 8th graders.
Math Night

Students and their families will experience math-related games and activities that will reinforce math concepts in a playful way.
Looking Back through History
Feb 27 5:00-7:00 p.m.
McMonagle Youth Advisory Council members will lead a month-long project with 5th and 6th grade students researching famous African-American historical figures in preparation for a live museum event.
Community Resource Fair
Mar. 19 5:00-7:00 p.m.
The McMonagle Thrive On team will invite a variety of community resource partners to engage with McMonagle families to raise awareness of the different resources and opportunities in the Flint community

Field Day
June 5
The McMonagle Thrive On team will partner with the day-school staff to celebrate students on a successful academic year. The celebration will feature bounce houses, game truck, food, games, and fun.
