Mechanical Maniacs
Grades K-6 Session 1
Mechanical Maniacs is a STEAM-based theme centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Students will learn problem solving, have hands-on design and build projects and develop teamwork.
Held: M, Tu, W, Th 3:15-5:15 PM
Examples of Mechanical Maniacs activities for grades K-3 will include: Marshmallow Towers where students will create a tower using large marshmallows, small marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti noodles; Iggy Peck Architect where students will work on creating and drawing a plan for their idea of a perfect school; and Crazy Catapults where students will learn about the simple machine (lever) and discuss potential energy, kinetic energy and elastic energy.
Examples of Mechanical Maniacs activities for grades 4-6 include: Building Bridges where students will learn about structural engineering by looking at different types of bridges. They will design, build, and test their own bridges; Balloon Rockets introduces students to Newton’s Third Law of Motion by having them build and test balloon rockets making physics relatable; and Build a Trebuchet where students will learn about levers, counterweights, and energy transfer, demonstrating how ancient technology applied basic mechanics.
The Lit Lab
Grades K-6 Session’ 2
In the Lit Lab, we will be working on all things literacy. Sight words, building vocabulary, helping students to become confident readers, interactive activities that will boost their reading and writing skills.

Reading Rangers
Grade 1 Session 1 & 2
Reading Intervention; literacy and skill building to improve grade-level reading using strategies, such as lessons on individual tablets, reading curriculum, parent and family-engagement activities and more.
Held: T, Th 3:45-4:45 p.m.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Success Mentoring
During lunch M/W & Tu/Th
One-on-one mentoring for selected students twice per week, designed to improve attendance and academic performance.
Student Advisory Council
Feb. 5, March 12, Apr. 16, May 14
Students will learn about the roles for class representatives, run campaigns, hold elections, learn about self-governance, while helping to make decisions about programming and activities at their school.
Parent Ambassador
Meetings Jan. 16, March 13, May 15
Parents and other community members collaborate with school staff and administrators to provide input on educational policies, programs, and decisions to improve student success. This group serves as a bridge between the home and the school.
Science Family Night
Feb. 12 4:30-6:30 p.m.
A family science night where students and parents will enjoy staff-lead science activities and
games to promote a night full of fun and hands-on activities through interactive play.
Thrive On Afterschool Parent Night
Feb. 26 5:00-6:30 p.m.
We will have a family dinner and game night with our afterschool program families.
Literacy Family Night
March 19 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Parents and students will engage in fun activities centered around reading and writing. There will be storytelling sessions, book making, and games that boost vocabulary and comprehension. This night will be about making literacy enjoyable and showing how it connects to everyday life.
