Dinner/Affirmations
Grades K-5 – Session 1 & 2
Healthy meals emphasizing the importance of nutrition and good
eating habits. During dinner, we will practice positive affirmations as a group.

STEAM
Grades K-5 Session 1 & 2
A fun hands-on learning experience where kids dive into STEAM through creativity and discovery. Students participate in exciting experiments, building challenges, art-infused projects, and problem-solving activities designed to spark curiosity and imagination.

Girl Scouts
Grades K-5 Session 1 & 2
Girls will be engaged in leadership training, service learning, youth voice and empowerment activities, and developing life skills through Girl Scout programming.

Character Counts
Grades K-1
This character education class helps students develop the values and life skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. Through stories, discussions, role-playing, and real-life examples, students learn how to make positive choices and treat others with respect.

No 2 Stripes Alike
Grades K-2 Session 1 & 2
Lessons in zoology, including live animal handling, ecology, and biology. Students will learn about animal behavior and habitat.

Kindercise
Grades K-2 Session 1 & 2
Kindercise is a high-energy exercise class for our K-2 students. Through playful movement, music, and games, children build strong bodies while learning the importance of kindness, teamwork, and positive attitudes.

Fuel For Fun
Grades K-2 Session 1 & 2
A nurturing after-school experience designed to fuel students’ bodies and minds. During this program, students explore nutritious recipes in a welcoming, environment that promotes healthy eating habits, gratitude, and connection.

Reading Rangers
Grades 1-2 Session 1 & 2
Reading intervention; literacy and skill building to improve grade level reading using strategies such as lessons on individual tablets, reading curriculum, parent and family engagement activities, and more.

Fathers That Care
Grades 2-3 Session 1 & 2
Volunteers will teach students about entrepreneurship, business, and healthy habits, designed to build leadership skills, strong character, and positive values.

Scouting
Grades 2-5 Session 1 & 2
A safe, fun place to learn, explore, and grow. Programming includes character development, leadership, and outdoor exploration.

Youth Advisory Council

Students will learn about the roles for class representatives, run campaigns, hold elections, learn about self-governance, while helping to make decisions about programming and activities at their school.

Mighty Bites
Grades 3-5 Session 1 & 2

Age-appropriate financial education in money management skills such as saving, budgeting, and making smart spending choices through interactive activities and real-life scenarios.

FIELD TRIPS

Black Violin
Feb. 13 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Students will attend a live performance of Black Violin, a Grammy-nominated duo composed of classically trained Black musicians who blend classical strings with hip-hop, R&B and pop music. During the performance, students learn the importance of arts education, musical discipline, cultural representation, and breaking barriers.

STEM at Chuck-E-Cheese
May 21 4:00-6:00 p.m.
This annual field trip is a culminating celebration that applies STEM education to fun! Students learn about physics, velocity, force and friction as it applies to fun and interactive games.

Upper El Trip to Dave & Busters
May 22 2:00-6:00 p.m.
This is a day school trip (approved by Principal) to celebrate the end of the year. Students will be applying STEM concepts and applications learned during afterschool programming. This annual field trip is a culminating celebration that applies STEM education to fun! Students learn about physics, velocity, force, and friction as it applies to fun, interactive games.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Success Mentoring
During lunch M/W & Tu/Th
One-on-one mentoring for selected students twice per week, designed to improve attendance and academic performance.

Kindergarten Transitions/Buddy Visits
May 18
Buddy Visits allow preschool students and families to visit and engage with school staff and kindergarten students in elementary school classrooms. Each preschool student will have a kindergarten buddy, and the pair will be assigned common goals during the Buddy Visits.

Parent Ambassador
Meetings Feb. 12, March 12, April 16, May 14 from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Parents and other community members collaborate with school staff and administrators to provide input on educational policies, programs, and decisions to improve student success. This group serves as a bridge between the home and the school.

Bi-weekly on Monday beginning Jan. 26 from 6:15-6:45 p.m.

Harlem Globetrotters
Jan. 29 2:00-6:00 p.m.
Parents and youth will enjoy an unforgettable night of high-energy basketball and family-friendly fun as we watch the Harlem Globetrotters.

Universoul Circus
March 6 2:00-6:00 p.m.
The Universoul Circus celebrates global culture, creativity, and community through breathtaking performances by talented artists from around the world. Families will enjoy acrobatics, music, dance, comedy, and dazzling visuals while students gain exposure to diverse cultures, teamwork, discipline, and the arts.

3rd Annual Sneaker Ball
March 6 5:00-7:00 p.m.
This annual event is a celebration and opportunity for parents and students to attend a ‘dress-up’ occasion. An evening of fun, music, dancing, family photos, and dinner.

College/Career Week
March 9-13 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
“Pathways to Purpose” – This event will be a week filled with college and career readiness for our elementary students. They will be engaged in mentorship, a mascot scavenger hunt, HBCU Day, College Life Q & A panel and much more.

Fun With Fellas April 17
Join us for a dynamic and engaging event designed to celebrate Fathers and Father-Figures while strengthening connections with the youth in their lives. Activities include: sports, video games Ce-sports), board games, and interactive challenges for all ages. With great food and beverages available, the event creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where relationships can grow naturally.

Rising Stars Talent/Fashion Show
May 8 5:00-8:00 p.m.
A celebration of student creativity; music, dance, art and fashion designed for students and their families.

Midwest Rodeo
June 3 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Brownell families can celebrate the rich and powerful legacy of African American cowboys and cowgirls at this exciting and educational family event. It is an opportunity to learn about history, resilience, and community while enjoying a family-friendly atmosphere.
